Presented by Carla Creegan, MSN RN , Director of Empath Adult Day Centers and Chapel by the Sea’s Parish Nurse;
Carla Creegan has worked in the community with persons diagnosed with dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinsons over the years of her nursing practice. As a bedside hospice nurse, Carla understands that the care provided to people with end stage disease by family, friends and loved ones works in tandem with the feelings and dynamics that occur at the end of life. Quality of life can be enhanced with the care of a caregiver that is related to or played a significant part in the loved one’s life. Quality care promotes a peaceful transition that ends with family and loved ones feeling good about the care they provided directly or care that they coordinated on behalf of their person.
Typically, non-professional caregivers did not choose their role, nor did they plan for it. It is important to have good resources, to make plans and be prepared for all the steps involved with caregiving – whether done directly or through resources. To keep a loved one home, up to and through the end of life, we have to have a plan.
Carla will discuss caring for her parents, the participants and families that are under her care and direction at the Adult Day Center and how to avoid stress, regrets, and isolation.
Come find out what resources are available to support care provided at home. Let us help you create a plan that is fluid and progresses with the disease. There is hope in planning and knowing what your next steps will be. There is love in giving care.
